Bowen Technique is a non-invasive hands-on bodywork therapy that stimulates the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and promotes neuromuscular re-patterning. The ANS regulates 80% of the body’s functions and is chronically over-stimulated in most people, sometimes due to physical injury and often in response to the cumulative pressures of everyday challenges. These stressors can create imbalances in the body which can lead to pain and chronic conditions. Often referred to as the homeopathy of bodywork, Bowen utilizes a series of subtle inputs to stimulate tissue and nerve pathways signalling the body to heal and restore its natural balance.

Bowen is a complementary modality in the sense that it enhances and compliments but does not interfere with traditional medical attention. Bowenwork® is appropriate for people of all ages, in all degrees of health.

EXPERIENCE BOWEN THERAPY

Bowenwork® sessions generally lasts from 45-60 minutes. Clients rest on a massage table or may be seated in a massage chair if required, for comfort. During treatment, profound relaxation occurs as the body shifts into a parasympathetic and healing state.

A 'session' involves one or more 'procedures', each of which consists of several sets of 'moves'. The moves are gentle, but purposeful, and can also be done through light clothing. Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client's body to begin responding. As the nervous system begins to adjust the tension level in the muscles, the practitioner assesses when the client is ready for the next set of moves. These pauses within the treatment are essential to obtaining lasting relief

Bowenwork® facilitates the body in balancing itself, with minimal intervention. Because of the nature of Bowen Technique, and the body's continuing response to it over several days, other forms of manual body work are discouraged for up to five days after a session.

Once you have obtained relief from your symptom, it is not required for you to have repeated treatments to keep the body balanced.  You may find you have pain relief for weeks or even months before a repeat treatment is needed.  All health concerns can be addressed at the same time as the body is addressed as a whole.  If you come to the clinic to receive relief from joint pain and headaches then it is quite likely digestion, sleep or mood will also improve.
